Careers Day
Careers Day has become an established part of our school calendar. Each year, it provides our children with the opportunity to interact with and ask questions of adults who perform a variety of work roles.
It offers our children insight into the vast world of work and the chance to reflect on their own future career choices.
This year, the children in Dragonfly, Skylark, and Mayfly Classes used role-play to explore lots of different jobs, such as being a farmer, construction worker, office worker, archaeologist, café owner, and vet. They talked about the skills and personal qualities they would need for each role.
We were fortunate to have some of their parents or carers visit us, including a police officer, a veterinarian, an agronomist, a dairy farmer, an engineer, the owner of a cleaning company, an office manager, and a wildlife nurse. It was fantastic to hear about their roles and discover the answers to the children's searching questions.
Meanwhile, Robin Class thought about their 'dream job' and all the qualities and qualifications it might require. They also participated in research and data-handling activities to illustrate the different types of jobs their family members have.
Some special visitors talked about becoming a scientist, a musician, and a conservationist. They explained the routes they had taken through education to pursue these roles.
The children in Year 6 had a wonderful day at our specially organised 'Careers Fair' at Clive Village Hall. They had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of careers, from the RAF to flood management to graphic design.
Thank you to all those who volunteered their time to make the day such a success. Offering the chance to reflect upon the world of work and their futures, the children get so much from it.
